Divas by Design - GDT - Pretty Pearls

Hello Everyone:

I am super excited today to share my card and fun news! I am a Guest Designer today over at Divas by Design. This is such a fantastic challenge blog. Their design team is just chalked right full of talent, so I was really honoured when they asked me to be a Guest Designer every second Wednesday until the end of October!! What better way to spend hump day!!

For my first challenge with them, the theme is PRETTY PEARLS. Here is what I came up with.

The brooch was beautiful to start with,  but I antiqued it a bit so it would look vintage. I applied a really tiny bit of glue, waited for it to be almost dry, then dabbed on some distress ink. When the glue dried, the ink rubbed off all of the spots except where the glue was...cool right!

For the background I started with some random swipes of home-made texture paste, then while it was still wet, I added some Tim Holtz distress glitter Antique Linen and ground it in. Then after all the painting, spraying, inking and stamping, I used my Crafter's Workshop Quatrefoil stencil to put down some more texture paste and more glitter.

This is what I was working on for the Speed Craft Challenge...which you can find in my previous post.

I hope you will zoom in on the next two photos, so you can see how amazing the glitter is, both as texture and as sparkle. Just right click and open link in a new tab.

The other challenges and design teams that gave me my inspiration:

( I used my stencil with a blending tool and ink for the background layers and then used the stencil again to add some texture paste for the top layers. I love the repeating pattern I got by doing this!)

(This is my first time trying real stitching on a card, love how it turned out! I did a standard stitch on all four sides of every layer and then did zig zag stitching in alternate corners for some added interest)

(My inspiration for doing a Golden Anniversary card - it will be heading to a friend for her to give to her Grandparents. Can't think of a better thing to celebrate than 50 years of marriage! Congrats to them!)

(Oh what fun! I have a drawer where I keep jewelry and trinkets picked up from yard sales and second hand shops. I pulled out a pearl brooch and a necklace which I broke apart and fashioned into dangly bits. Also, the beige paper is from an old pack that got bleached in the sun...thought it worked perfectly for the vintage feel of my card!)

- Moving Along With The Times - Feeling a Little Vintage
(I was really excited about the prospect of doing something with a vintage feel to it, I thought that old jewelry was a perfect fit and I just took it from there! Great challenge!)

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in twice!! And for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  7. I forgot to ask in my previous comment...how do you make the texture paste? I understand if you have a secret recipe, no pressure on revealing it...:)

    1. My texture paste is my very own recipe, but definitely not a secret. Perhaps I should do a tutorial for that! I will put it on my to do list. Hugs :)

  8. So amazing! I'm not surprised you didn't finish but it was worth spending a bit more time! I admire your style too- I can't do anything else- I've tried and it just looks a muddled mess! Glad to have found your blog- maybe your style can be learnt a little?!! x

    1. Thanks Keren! I feel the same way about your style, I just love CAS cards, but I'm apparently incapable of actually making one. They start out nice and simple, then comes out the distresser tool and the lace and the pearls and the crackle paint...next thing you know, it's a big shabby mess! Ha, gotta be me, I guess. Hugs :)

    1. Hi Elaine, thanks for the wonderful compliment!

Maybe the easiest thing to do would be to follow me by email. Near the top of the page on the right hand side, underneath the blurb about me...there is a little box where you can enter your email address. Is it completely confidential, and then you would receive an email when I put up a new post.

      Does that help?? Hugs :)
